Research at Department 05
The Department of Technical Systems, Processes and Communication is one of the strongest research departments at Hochschule München.
Video: Research at Department 05
A sustainable future – this is the focus of research being carried out in thelaboratories of Department 05. For example, by Prof. Dr. Helga Zollner-Croll, whose work centres on biogenic fibres.
Applied Research
Our applied research addresses the challenges of our time, such as the sustainable use of resources and energy efficiency. A wide range of research studies and projects are being carried out in this area at Department 05 and in our research and affiliated institutes. Our degree programmes offer our industry partners a broad spectrum of interesting opportunities for collaboration.
Network
As a department of engineering, we attach particular importance to theintegration of teaching, practical experience and applied Research. We have therefore maintained close links with relevant companies and industry associations for many years. Research opportunities for students, in the form of internships and final assignments, are particularly important in this regard.
Our institutes
Gaining a better understanding of star formation | HM Research makes a difference (in German only)
The birth of stars is a key process in the universe – a prerequisite for the emergence of life. To gain a better understanding of these processes, Department 05 professor Christine Maria Greif (Energy and Building Services Engineering) and Mark Hutchison (PhD) have developed a tool that makes the analysis of star-forming regions faster and more reliable.
Video: Utilisation of calorific value in biomass boilers (in German only)
Prof. Dr. Christian Schweigler and Dr. Tina Hermann explain the aim of the research project: to develop a system for utilising the heat output of biomass boilers.
Video: Gamification for Team Motivation (in German only)
Prof. Dr. Markus Stäuble is a HTA Innovation Professor. In this interview, he answers questions about virtual collaboration and his paper ‘Gamification for Team Motivation’.
CENERGIE research institute (in German only)
The CENERGIE research institute brings together the research area ‘Energy-Efficient Buildings and Districts’. It carries out research projects on energy efficiency and energy use with the aim of addressing the energy transition and climate change from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Video: Paper made from non-wood plants
Wood is a scarce resource. It is therefore important to look for alternatives, including for paper production. A research group of students led by Prof. Dr. Helga Zollner-Croll is working on the extraction of pulp from non-wood plants. And, as it turns out, they have been successful.
Publications
Research thrives on publications. In the ‘Search’ section of ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID), you can view the publications of researchers from our department. You can also find them on their respective profiles.
