Information on the internship semester
Training plan for the practical semester
Duration: 20 weeks of 5 days each or 25 weeks of 4 days each
Timing: 5th semester
Aim of the placement: to provide an insight into the work of an engineer in the media and print industry, applying the skills and abilities acquired during the course of study to date.
Course content:
Tasks relating to the areas listed below as examples should, where possible, be carried out in the form of a clearly defined project:
- Technical and/or commercial management
- Management Accounting and Costing
- Organisation and Work Planning
- Technical and Business Data Processing
- Media services and media marketing
- Materials Management and Procurement
- Advertising and Sales
- Human Resources and Social Services
- Research and Development
- Health and Safety at Work and Accident Prevention
A written report must be drawn up on the practical training.
The Practical Training Semester is supplemented by the module ‘Practical Semester Presentation’, which is scheduled to take place immediately after the practical semester.
Apprenticeships:
The Practical Training Semester is to be undertaken in organisations within the media and print industry. An organisation is considered suitable for the internship if the internship student can achieve the required learning objective. In particular, the opportunity to carry out engineering-related work should be given priority over the size of the organisation.
If the internship is to be undertaken abroad or spread across several organisations, this must be agreed with the programme’s internship supervisor before the internship contract is signed.
Information on the final assignment
The topic of the Bachelor’s thesis can be allocated at the earliest at the start of the sixth semester. A prerequisite for the allocation of the Bachelor’s thesis is the successful completion of the practical training component of the practical study semester.
Students may put forward suggestions for the topic of their Bachelor’s thesis. It is recommended that the topic of the Bachelor’s thesis be chosen in collaboration with an industrial company.
The topic may focus on a specialist area within the technical or business context of the degree programme.
The final selection of the topic, and consequently the allocation of the topic, is carried out by the supervisor.
The printing and binding of final assignments are not the responsibility of the Digital Media & Print subject area within Department 05 at Hochschule München. There is no entitlement to have final assignments printed on the digital printing machines of the Digital Media & Print study area.
There are commercial providers for this sort of work, such as copy shops or online services; see a search engine for ‘printing a final assignment’.
The production of books forms part of the degree programme; it would therefore be desirable for students to print and bind their final assignments themselves. Unfortunately, there are not enough staff available for this, and staff members in the subject area of Printing and Media Technology are only permitted, in exceptional cases, to assist students with printing their final assignments. Students may carry out the binding themselves using the department’s equipment.
The decision as to whether a thesis can be printed at the university rests with the head of the Post-Press Laboratory (Prof. Thomas Kuen), in consultation with the technical officers of the subject area of Printing and Media Technology, and depends on their workload and the available machine capacity. An informal request to this effect must be sent by e-mail to Prof. Kuen (kuen@hm.edu) no later than one week before the submission deadline for the final assignment.
