Before the practical semester
Students must make their own efforts to find a suitable placement. To this end, it is advisable to contact the placement supervisor in advance
Paper:Prof. Dr. Emanuele Martorana
Packaging:Prof. Dr. Sängerlaub
In any case, students are advised to check that the placement offers training that is relevant to their future career plans. The placement should be in industry, rather than at colleges or universities.
An internship abroad is also an option.
Looking for a job, submitting applications, attending interviews and signing a contract are all part of the practical semester.
Here you’ll find job vacancies and more:
Students are eligible to commence the Practical Training Semester if they have passed all examinations from the first and second semesters and have earned a total of at least 40 ECTS credits in the modules of the third and fourth semesters.
Please note: ECTS credits earned by taking general academic compulsory-elective modules prior to the fourth semester of study are not taken into account here.
Your Practical Training Semester usually takes place in the 5th semester.
Your practical study semester lasts for at least 18 weeks (= 18 × 5 days)
Please note: due to holidays and sick leave, 20 weeks are recommended, as holidays, sick days and days off in lieu of overtime are not included in this calculation.
An apprenticeship contract must be drawn up for the industrial placement.
The internship contract must be approved by the university. You must not commence the internship without a contract that has been signed by the university in advance.
Procedure:
Please submit contracts in quadruplicate:
1) Students’ signature
2) Company signature
3) Signature of the HM internship supervisor
4) Two copies remain at the university; one copy is for students and one copy is for the company; students pass their copy on to the company
5) The work placement contract should be submitted online via PRIMUSS, together with the fully completed data sheet.
Please submit your work placement contract or certificate exclusively via
PRIMUSS > Services > Applications and messages > Select application/form > Internship arranged, and select the relevant option: Submission of internship contract
You can view the training plans and download the various forms here on the university’s general page on the practical semester.

During the practical semester
Registration for the examination is essential for the placement report and the course accompanying the placement for the relevant semester; if no registration has been made, no grade will be entered on the overview of marks.
In addition to the industrial placement, students must attend the courses that accompany the placement. These take place on separate dates. Further information is available from the placement supervisor.
During the practical project, a short report (approx. 2 pages) must be emailed to Prof. Dr. Martorana every 4 weeks.
Please contact Prof. Martorana for guidance on writing internship reports.
After the practical semester
Once the internship has been completed in full, the internship report must be submitted to your internship supervisor in both written and digital form, including all images and references.
At the end of the practical semester, the students’ host organisation must issue them with a internship certificate. The certificate must not have been issued before the last day of the internship period. You may use the internship certificate forms available from the Examination and Internship Department or the Administrative Office (see also the download option). A copy of the work placement certificate must be submitted to the Examination and Internship Department at Hochschule München via PRIMUSS immediately after the end of the practical semester. Please keep the original for your own records. Under no circumstances should you attach your certificate to the internship report you submit to your internship supervisor at Hochschule München.
Please submit your internship contract or certificate exclusively via PRIMUSS Online Services > Services > Applications and Messages > Select application/form > Internship with immediate effect, and select the appropriate option: Submission of internship certificate
You can view the training plans and download the various forms here on the university’s general page on the practical semester .
